Now here are a couple evolutionary successes. The plant, Horsetail, is what they call a “living fossil.” It hasn’t changed much in over 100 million years. It’s a tough one. Horsetails survived the Yucatan asteroid collision of 66 million years ago. Horsetails grew up through the asphalt of my grandfather’s garage and the six year-old me had his little mind blown by that.

House Finches are native to Mexico and the southwestern US, but were introduced to the northeastern US in the early 20th century as cute house birds. Someone left the cage open and here we are today with finches everywhere.
